Natalia Zukerman: Music
Fool's Gold
(Natalia Zukerman)
I went driving through the hills of West Virginia and through the morning dew and as the fog cleared up ahead, I could see what you’re doing, what you’re doing. I came here for the solitude and the endless skyline. I came here for the courage it will take not to take you back again with me this time. Because you are the freeway and I’m a country road and up ahead at the intersection, they are mining for fool’s gold. You’re sleeping curled up on my jacket now and there’s bottles rolling at my feet. Every time we clean up around here there’s just more to clean up underneath. We’ve listened to all of your music and listened and listened to mine. We’ve even made up some of our own along the way but all I can remember is this line. You are the radio and I’m a country song. We drive each other crazy,
but you can’t help singing along. There’s a shady tree up ahead. Let’s pull over for a while. It’s been days since I’ve seen you smiling. Out on this freeway, there’s a country road somewhere and when I find the intersection, I’m gonna pull over just to show you.
